Well, today you are heading slowly, but surely back to civilisation. There seem to be lots more cars, buses and tourists which are here for the mountains and cycling.
Portree is the main town in Skye, and has ample places for refuelling, after leaving Uig.
After Portree, the mountains are calling, and you can either take a coast track which goes round the mountains. The road here is tarmac, but isn’t in great condition. Or the more direct route – the mountain pass which has a big ascent and has lots of traffic.
I went the coast track way and was very peaceful.
The next stopping point is Broadford, which has a very busy coffee shop, and places to stay.
After the village, there is a signposted turn on the right, to Armadale and the ferry. It really did feel amazing here – sun shining, great road conditions and satisfaction that another island had been ridden – in a day!
Armadale to Mallaig Ferry is at 19:00 (or 10:30 next day) – 40 min crossing.
